To A New Grandson

 

I was born in a time when ten pm was late

I was born in a time when six am was late

The first well past a sensible bedtime 

The second well past the opportunity to be employed

I was born in a time when children were abused by their parents

I was born in a time when those parents stayed together

The first an abuse of children 

The second an abuse of children 

I was born in a time when you found your own way through life

I was born in a time when, if you had talent, you wouldn’t know

The first – it can be done

The second – ?

You are born in a time when children are worshipped

You are born in a time of guidance and love

The first – hopefully will give you the creeps

The second – all you should expect
